Terry Fox College is a dream come true for me and my whole team. When I first came to Canada, I quickly realized that my university diploma was not enough to obtain the position I aspired for. I learned that I lacked the skills and sometimes the necessary knowledge to obtain my dream job, and I figured that the only way to succeed is to invest in myself and continue my lifelong learning journey. It was a rewarding experience that I wanted to share with you. Our Story

We all face challenges in our lives, whether with our health, money, or personal relationships. The secret, what really makes the difference between success and failure, is first and foremost a strong determination to reach our goals and second, to give ourselves the means to make our dreams come true. TFC is born out of these beliefs and our inspiration comes from the story of a Canadian boy named Terry Fox.

Since his early age, TF showed resolve and perseverance as he strived to excel in his favorite sport which was basketball. He was faced with challenges. First, he was short. In fact, he was only five feet tall in Grade 8. Second, he was not skilled. He did not have the natural talent that some of his co-players had. But he had something that was far more important: determination. He practiced every day, even during summer, and continued doing so until he became the best basketball player in his team in Grade 12. However, a tragic incident changed the course of the life of this young man. In fact, by the age of 18, the boy who loved sport, who made it an essential part of his life, who worked so hard to be part of the basketball team was faced with a terrible fate: He discovered he had a type of bone cancer called osteogenic sarcoma. Because his cancer spread quickly doctors had no choice but to amputate his right leg and replaced it with an artificial one. The boy who never gave up on his dream to become a basketball player applied the same determination to fight cancer.

The experience he had with his illness and in the children’s cancer wards made him realize that more money was needed to fight this disease. He decided to run cross Canada to raise funds for cancer research, what was called “the marathon of hope”. He stated nicely in a letter he wrote to the Canadian Cancer Society “It was then I decided to meet this new challenge head on and not only overcome my disability but conquer it in such a way that I could never look back and say it disabled me”. On 1 February 1981, Fox achieved his goal of raising $1 for every person in Canada. He not only raised money for cancer, but also engaged Canadians from all over the country and raised awareness about cancer in a way never seen before. Eventually, he was forced to stop the race due to his illness and died shortly after.

The story of this incredible young men touched Canadians to the core and inspired us to give resolved people the means to succeed. Because we know that determination alone is not enough, and because we believe that education is a gratifying journey that opens a whole new world of opportunities, we made it our duty to provide the best learning experience to those interested in sports science and business. To quote TF “nothing is impossible if we try”, and the core mission of TFC is to give each one of our students the means to try, to defy boundaries and constraints, succeed in their personal and professional life and make their dreams come true.
